A young pregnant woman from Louisville is now grief-stricken after a car accident killed three of her immediate family members. The woman is five months pregnant, so her father asked that she stay behind while the rest of her family went on vacation, which involved some hiking that might have been dangerous for the mother-to-be. However, a deadly car accident occurred on the family's return trip home, and now the woman has lost her 38-year-old father, 31-year-old stepmother and 15-year-old sister due to the crash.
The family was traveling on Interstate 75 when their SUV was clipped by a truck, causing the family's vehicle to flip over. The stepmother and younger sister died at the scene, and the father died later in the hospital.
The pregnant woman had almost gone on the trip herself, but her father insisted that she stay home because of her pregnancy. She is still trying to cope with the fact that her family is gone, and she now wears a bracelet that has her sister's name on it.
As she tries to understand the depth of her immeasurable loss, this young woman must also deal with the cost of funerals and any medical treatment her father may have received. It was unclear whether police filed any charges against the driver of the other vehicle, but taking a close look at the accident report will help the young woman determine whether civil actions are in order. If negligent driving is shown to be a factor in the crash, she may have grounds to seek compensation under Kentucky's wrongful death laws.
